On 17 April 2011, Ms. Terry Lai, founder chairman of our Group, received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards for her contribution to the local film industry for the past years. This is in addition to Terry receiving an “Outstanding Contribution to Promoting the Theatre Industry Award” at the Hong Kong Theatre Association in 2010.

Terry’s contributions to the industry exceed her role as a businesswoman. In 1986, she became a founding member and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association – the umbrella society for all filmed entertainment associations. During this time, she was instrumental in coordinating new censorship laws, which established clear rating categories still used today.

In 1999, she was a key leader in arranging the joint anti-piracy effort of multi-national intellectual property rights associations and the local copyright industries. This convinced the Hong Kong SAR Government to take action against piracy and prevent copyright infringement, which had brought the local film and music industry to near ruins. Their involvements eventually sparked a resurgence in the local entertainment industry.

Terry was also the first to introduce digital and 3D movie projection to the local theatres, offering a greater variety of exhibition formats and spectacular entertainment to local moviegoers.

During 2005 to 2009, Terry served on the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's Entertainment Industry Advisory Committee and the SAR Government's Film Development Committee to improve the growth of local film production. Since 2007, Terry has been appointed as one of the members of Hong Kong Film Development Council.

As part of our 40th anniversary campaign in giving back to the society, KIGH has jointly organized with Grace Charity Foundation a fund raising activity called "Social & Movie Celebrities One Lovely Egg Charity Sale" event from May 21 to May 30, 2010 at the Telford Plaza, Kowloon. On the first day, Ms. Wei Ying-hung, this year's Best Actress award recipient at the Hong Kong Academy Award, showed up as the One Lovely Egg Ambassador to kick off the fund raising ceremony.

A lot of social and movie celebrities, including: Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-fat, Andy Lau, Eric Tsang, Kelly Chen, Wong Chau-san, Yon Fan, Derek Yee, Law Kai-yui, Cheung Yuen-ting, Wei Ying-hung, Yam Tat-wah, Ki Ki, Cheng Yi-kin, Chiu Nga-chi, Michelle, Gordon Lau, Karen Mok, Nat Chan, Wan Bik-ha, Mak Chun-loong, Chow Pak-ho, MC Jin, Cheng Dan-shui, Wong Chung-chak, Chan Man-Tze, Ko Kwan-yin, and many film companies, had donated their private collections and movie souvenirs to support the charity event. Some were even made available to public for auction. At this event, more than HK$600,000 was raised in support to the "One Lovely Egg" movement.

Apart from this event, MCL Cinema had also supported the charity by running a "One Ticket One Lovely Egg" movement. During the same period, for each admission ticket sold, MCL will donate monies (enough for purchase of an egg) to the poor pupil in Gwei Zhou through Grace Charity Foundation. Such act was to offer a chance for more Hong Kong people to care for the not-so-fortunate people from afar while enjoying film entertainment comfortably in the cinema.

IFC2 Run Up 2010 for Charity

Encouraging our staff to participate in all kinds of community activities has always been a long standing tradition KIGH is proud of. On 24 January 2010, one of the group companies, MCL, has donated a sum of HK$50,000 to the Community Chest who organized a Run Up competition at IFC2 with the proceeds to fund the services for the Mentally Retards and Multiple-Disables. What’s more, MCL has also have 4 of her staff enrolled in the run up relay competition and successfully finished running up from the ground to the top (an entire 88 storey of stairs)!

KIGH team up with school students in a YDC School-Company Partnership

The "School-Company Partnership" is a program organized by the Young Entrepreneurs Development Council twice a year. This program is designed to foster entrepreneurial spirit in Hong Kong, particularly amongst young people. This year, KIGH has enrolled in their 2nd semester 2009-2010 program, sending 3 staff as Company Ambassadors to work with the Methodist Lee Wai Lee College to deliver the program content, through a series of 7 workshops, to a group of Form 6 students. By giving these students an opportunity to share the work experience from the KIGH executives, it is hoped that these young people will be able to prepare themselves with the correct mindset and attitude to face the challenges when they step into the commercial world.

Endless Love and Hope beginning with an Egg

Our founder chairman Terry Lai has always been active in participating in community services. At the time of the Group's 35th anniversary, Terry has collaborated with Grace Charity Foundation in rebuilding 3 secondary schools and one primary school. And when Terry found out that these 12,13 years old children appearing like a 7,8 years old in height and weight, all because they could not afford to have decent meals, she immediately initiated a "An Egg of Love" movement, raising fund just to deliver at least one egg per week for these future masters of China so they could get a little bit better in nutrition.

From the first semester of 2009-2010 onward, this "An Egg of Love" movement has been extended to more than 12 schools in Guizhou, including of course the 4 schools supported by KIGH, benefiting over 7,000 people.

Apart from this, the $100,000 KIGH donated to building a new dormitory building for the Kadokawa Intercontinental Secondary School has also created a ripple effect to the local government officials, causing their extra subsidy of money to build an even larger building for the students, providing a better study environment for these children!

Terry Lai has been working in the film and cinema business for 40 years and is well recognized by the peers for her efforts in promoting the industry. This year, she has won herself the "Outstanding Contribution in Promoting the Cinema Industry" Award from the Hong Kong Theatres Association during the annual spring dinner.

The film also features music from YUI “Midnight Sun” (2006) who was inspired by the script to create two songs for this film.

After Transformers took the world by surprise in 2007, its sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen topped Hong Kong’s 2009 summer box office with $48 million. Transformers: Dark of the Moon opened on June 29th to the No. 1 spot and set new records which include the Highest Grossing Opening Weekend of all films ever released as well as the Biggest Single Day of All-Time in the Hong Kong history (grossing more than $10 million on July 1)!

PAPC was proud to help contribute such impressive box office records by heavily involving in the planning and execution of the most thorough marketing strategies for the Transformers trilogy. Extensive coverage by means of outdoor billboard, bus ads, TV commercials, print ads, MTR posters and theatre displays have achieved in generating a city wide media hype prior for the release of each and every Transformers film.

After the launch of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, PAPC became the driving force behind DreamWorks summer blockbuster Kung Fu Panda 2. A series of advertising and publicity strategies to push the film to its maximum was devised. Massive plans of above- and below-the-line campaigns and the high profile and star-studded Gala Premiere made the panda everyone’s heartthrob this summer.

C3 x Hobby Expo has been held every summer in Tokyo, and it is one of the most celebrated event of anime and manga toys festival in Japan. This year, "C3 in HK 2011" was held from March 11 to 13 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing to Hong Kong fans the most authentic Japanese anime and manga culture. Perfect Advertising was invited to be one of the local organizer, and responsible for the event planning, publicity, promotion and advertising campaign. The street Cosplay parade and the event press conference successfully attracted a large number of anime fans and received extensive media coverage. As the local event organizer, Perfect Advertising handled the logistics management during the exhibition period, including: on-site coordination, reception of the Japanese guests, crowd control, ticketing, etc."C3 in Hong Kong 2011" received both good attendance and positive evaluation from the visitors and exhibitors. The fruitful result impressed the Japanese organizing corporation and officially appointed Perfect Advertising continuously as the local organizer of "C3 in Hong Kong 2012" in the coming year.

To kick-off the opening of the third year of J-toon Festival, MCL has invited the Japanese animation master, Makoto Shinkai to host a meet-and-greet session in MCL Telford Cinema. Prior to the premier screening of the movie “Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below”, hundreds of fans had filled up the cinema house with keen anticipation and were excited to share Mr Makoto’s vision on his animation production. The event was fun-filled and was ended with an autograph and photo-taking session making the evening a very memorable one.

“The Empress of Pop” - Ayumi Hamasaki, hasn’t made her public appearance in Hong Kong since years and has returned to the 4D Extreme Screen this September for the premier screening of her A3DII "Ayumi Hamasaki Rock'n'Roll Circus Tour FINAL ~7days Special~". Well-known for her very fashionable style and was loved by her followers as a trendsetter, hundreds of Ayumi’s die-hard fans bought along with them banners and tailor-made props to the cinema and cheered for their idol in super excitement. Ayumi was accompanied by her dancer SHU-YA at the meet-and-greet session and spoke about some of her funny and memorable moments in her music tour which has attracted a wide coverage from the press and media.

Tickets of this special screening were sold out in 15 minutes on the first box office opening day at MCL websites and the A3DII "Ayumi Hamasaki Rock'n'Roll Circus Tour FINAL ~7days Special~" is now showing in MCL Cinema exclusively during a limited release period.

After releasing the first live broadcasting concert – “AKB48 Request Hour Set List Best 100 2011” in January this year, MCL Cinemas brought to concert fans another featured live concert - the “L’Arc~en~Ciel 20th L’Anniversary Live” in May. Die-hard fans of “L’Arc~en~Ciel’ gave their tremendous support to the group and tickets were sold out within the first half hour! Riding on the success of doing live broadcasting, MCL released “AKB48’s 3rd Senbatsu General Election 2011” in June. AKB48 followers cheered for Atsuko Maeda who had got the highest vote at the election and were taken away by the excitement of the result as if they were watching it at the stadium in Japan. Thanks for the great support of the audience, MCL will be bringing in more alternative programmes to Hong Kong in the near future.

For the first time ever, MCL Cinemas had brought the “AKB48 Request Hour Set List Best 100 2011” live to Hong Kong in 3 MCL cinemas – MCL JP, MCL Telford and MCL Kornhill. This Best 100 Songs countdown event was held in SHIBUYA-AX Tokyo from January 20 – 23 and was broadcasted live simultaneously in 72 cinemas in Japan. MCL was proud to have presented the event exclusively in Hong Kong and was honored to be the only territory outside of Japan doing the simultaneous broadcasting. Tickets of the last two shows were sold out in no time as soon as the advance booking began and the response at the show was overwhelming. Audience brought along the specially-designed AKB glowstick to cheer for their idols and enjoyed the concert as if they were watching it inside the venue of Japan.

To ride on the heat, a series of special premiums were created for this Hong Kong live broadcasting event and these collectable AKB48 premiums were put on sales only for a limited period.
